Why WoodWork is a small high quality handmade wood product maker. We use a variety of wood types from locally sourced sustainable milled timber to furniture sent for disposal (this is broken down and converted into useable products). Our repertoire includes exotic African firewood(Camelthorn, Sicklebush & Mopane) which has found its way to the UK and would otherwise have been burnt. All of these now get a second chance at life!!
All products are handmade with the greatest of detail, love and affection, and finished off in a home-made 100% natural mineral oil and beeswax blend. All glue used is 100% food safe and all metal bits are full stainless steel – guaranteeing quality and longevity of any product.
New products are continuously being developed with the tag of being “different and unique” at the heart of any idea taken through from prototype to saleable product – if it isn’t unique it isn’t being made!
We only use quality hardwoods with the natural imperfections being embraced rather than hidden, wood is after all a natural product.
You can be assured that in terms of appearance your product is one of a kind.
Having always had a keenness for anything that requires imagination and getting ones hands dirty - and of course who doesn't love a tool.
Having moved to the countryside a few years back I took it to myself to embrace the surrounds, dig deeper and try more.
I started mostly with chopping boards and cheese slicers however being South African born we naturally have an attraction to fires and subsequently wood. Looking into the eyes of a piece of Southern African firewood (namely Kameeldoring) I thought of sparing its life and giving it a new lease, this subsequently turned into an amazing looking bottle opener.
I was taken aback by its natural beauty and tried the same with different varieties of the African hardwoods, all providing a different colour balance of differing beauty.
This has evolved into all sorts of different and somtimes quirky items being produced, guaranteed to be one of a kind..!!
For now I am proud to say I still have all 10 fingers, all full length too.
